Hi, I'm Gunjan Khut,

A Robotics Controls Engineer with a passion for innovation and a drive to push the boundaries of technology, I thrive on creating solutions that merge cutting-edge hardware with intelligent software. With a strong academic foundation from the University of Maryland, College Park, and 11+ years of professional experience in Robotics, Industrial Automation, and Controls, I have honed my expertise in a variety of areas.

Throughout my career, I have been at the forefront of designing and implementing state-of-the-art robotics projects, harnessing the power of computer vision, AI planning, and advanced control algorithms. My proficiency in industrial automation, computer vision, machine learning, deep learning, Data Science and AI planning has led me to drive IoT, Industry 4.0 initiatives and sustainable manufacturing practices. Notably, I innovated a data-science tool for calculating and analyzing solar power plants.

My diverse skill set includes programming software's, applying my expertise in Robot Control, Kinematics, and Dynamics. I possess a keen eye for Computer Vision and Machine Vision applications and excel in Mechatronics and Electromechanical design. My experience with Embedded Systems has enabled me to create robust and efficient solutions.

Having worked in a 80K Sqft. Cleanroom manufacturing facility, I have extensive experience in High speed manufacturing, rapid prototyping, laboratory testing, and simulation, ensuring that each project meets the highest standards of quality and performance. My proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and generating manufacturing drawings and control schematics enables seamless product development.

I actively collaborate and contribute to open-source software projects, fostering a spirit of knowledge sharing and community growth. My expertise extends to Linear & Optimal Control, Robot Localization & Navigation, Sensor Integration and Fusion.

I have had the opportunity to work with a wide array of software and hardware technologies, including Git, Linux, MATLAB, OpenCV, and SolidWorks. My hardware expertise encompasses Industrial Robots (ABB, Fanuc & UR), Keyence/Cognex Vision Systems, SuperTrak, BnR Controllers, Mobile Platforms, RGBD sensors, Micro-controllers, AC & DC motors, PLC, HMI & VFDs, Linear Stages, and Pneumatic Actuators.

    • Led the implementation of assembly and process equipment, AGVs, and Robots to optimize Manufacturing Operations.
    • Designed and programed controls infrastructure, including PLCs programming, Vision systems, HMIs, Keyence and Cognex machine vision systems, database management, and motion control drives (VFD and servo drives).
    • Programed various Robots for accurate and precise pick-place operations with auto learning features (ABB and Fanuc)

  • Developed an autonomous mobile robot inorder to traverse autonomously through a cluttered environment in order to find targets and move them to a specified location
  • Planning of route and navigation of obstacles using LiDAR from a start point to end point in a known environment.
  • Used g-mapping technique using SLAM and developed a binary map of the environment to feed to the Planning algorithm.

    Northrop Grumman Image Recognition Challenge

    The goal was to build a robust algorithm that would accurately detect the emergency vehicles in all possible scenario. Used Transfer Learning and Faster RCNN model. The sheer amount of data and unique approach allowed us to achieving 85% accuracy and win the competition.

    The objective of ARIAC is to test the agility of industrial robot systems, with the goal of enabling industrial robots on the shop floors to be more productive, autonomous, and responsive to the needs of shop floor workers. Used UR10 robot along with ROS-Gazebo framework (MoveIt, OMPL)

    Visual Odometry

    Carried out Visual odometry for a car moving around a block using feature extraction and manipulating fundamental matrix. The trajectory of the vehicle was calculated for the path

    Traffic sign detection and classification

    Traffic sign detetction is the process of forming a bounding box around a traffic sign, so that the region of interest can then be cropped and given to the classifier for sign classification. (SVM, MSER features and HOG fetures)

    Lane Detection

    Implemented lane detection for straight and curved lanes by using edge detection and perspective transforms. The line fitted on the lanes are extrapolated and using center of the frame to predict the curvature.

    Deep Reinforcement Learning for Simulated Self Driving Car

    This project uses a car model developed in Graphical interface and enables it to travel from one point to another in a rectangular map using Deep Q learning. The car also displays collision avoidance property while moving in the simulation environment.
